Do I Need Trims for My Shower Panels?

We would always recommend using trims with your shower panels. Shower Trims not only help to potentially keep moisture from reaching the back of the panels, but they help to conceal the edges of panels once cut. PVC Shower Panels don’t always need trims as fitters will use a bead of silicon at the bottom and corners, but PLY/MDF Panels it is essential.

What Trims Do I Need for My Bathroom?

Whenever you have a corner or an exposed edge you will need a shower trim. We stock internal, external, end cap and base profile trims in a variety of colours and materials. When picking a shower trim make sure you are buying the correct size for your panels. Sounds obvious, but a lot of people make this mistake.

If your panels aren’t going from wall to wall, then you will want a starter trim known as an end cap. This hides the exposed edge and protects the inner core of the panel from any moisture which is essential when fitting Ply Shower Panels.

If your shower panels are being fitted around three sides of a shower tray you will need two internal corners. The ends of the panels will fit snug into the shower trim and any sealant used should be wiped off. Once fitted water will not reach the back of the panel.

If you have an external corner, you can choose between a 90 degree angled trim or a bullnose trim which gives a smooth rounded finish.

Finally, we have the base profile trim which should always be used on a shower tray or around a bath. We stock the cladseal trim which is to be used with PVC panels and the Fibo Base Profile Trim which should be used with Ply and MDF panels. These trims prevent water from reaching the underside of the panels.

What Types of Adhesives Is There?

At Wet Wall Works we stock two types of adhesives for gluing you shower panels to the wall. You can use a silicon adhesive which is ideal for sticking your shower panels to plasterboard or a grab adhesive if you’re sticking your panels to tiles, timber, or bricks. Each will need 24 hours to cure depending on the thickness used.

What Adhesive Should I Use for Gluing My Shower Panels?

Bathroom Fitters will have their own preferred choice of adhesive but for you, you just need to buy something that’s going to work first time round. That’s why the best adhesive to purchase is a grab adhesive like our own Wow adhesive. Wow has been designed to be a multi-purpose adhesive and sealant that can bond to a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics, ceramics, and wood. Wow adhesive is known for its high initial grab and fast curing time, which allows it to quickly form a strong and durable bond.

One of the key features of Wow is its resistance to water, weathering, and UV radiation, which makes it a popular choice for indoor and outdoor applications. It is also flexible and able to accommodate for thermal expansion and contraction, which is important for applications that are exposed to temperature changes.

How Many Tubes of Adhesive Do I Need?

Due to the weight of shower panels, we would recommend using two tubes of adhesive per panel. A general rule is a tube per 5kg and when applying the adhesive do a zig zag pattern on the back with blobs of adhesive in the centre of each triangle.
