THE SUPERHEROES OF WET WALL WORKS AT BRAEHEAD CLAN

THE SUPERHEROES OF WET WALL WORKS AT BRAEHEAD CLAN

6th Jul 2018

When Clyde One first asked us back in February if we would like to partner up with Clyde Cash for Kids and sponsor their famous Superhero Day on 4th May, we jumped at the chance. Clyde CFKs explained to us how 1 in 3 children in Glasgow and the West are living in poverty and that our partnership allows for 100% of all donations to go straight to helping these children get help.It was announced a few weeks later that we were sponsoring Clyde’s CFKs Superhero Day and a campaign started calling all Superheroes to save the date. We were so touched by the stories Clyde CFKs shared with us that we decided we wanted to keep helping… so we called upon our good friends at the Braehead Clan. We wanted to kick start the fundraising and encourage everyone to get into the swing of Superhero Day by arranging events in their own work place. The guys at Braehead Clan were on board right away and agreed to not only let us do a bucket collection at their game on March 23rd but they started a whole campaign portraying the Clan players as Superheroes ahead of their “Superhero Effort” to get into the play-offs.

This created a brilliant hype for the Superhero theme, we even got a retweet from the man himself… George Bowie! Before we knew it, the game was sold out.Friday 23rd March arrived and Superman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Batman, Batgirl, Banana Man and Thor piled into the Batmobile, left the Wet Wall Works offices and headed to Braehead Arena with a mission to raise as much cash for Cash for Kids as possible. We were met by the girls from Clyde One and Clyde Cash for Kids who had dressed up in capes and sashes to help us with the buckets. The anxiousness of being stood in an arena being greeted by 3,000 people while in a silly costume quickly passed as everyone was so encouraging. And everyone was so generous! The buckets were getting heavier and heavier as everyone threw in their spare change and gave us a quick smile as they passed. Wonder Woman was even asked for a few selfies! There were mini Batgirls, Wonder Women and Spidermen pouring into the arena and even a week old Spiderman!

We collected right until the late-comers were in their seats at the start of the 1st Period. Then we heard the roar which could only mean one thing… a goal for the clan already! We got our buckets organised and said goodbye to the Clyde girls when it happened again… another mighty roar… another goal for Braehead Clan! It was time to get ourselves in that arena. The Nottingham Panthers pulled one back to go into the 1st interval 2-1.During the 1st interval there was a Beach Ball Battle to win a £250 Wet Wall Works voucher, and my oh my it was a battle. We were in stiches watching the players slide around and really go for it trying to get the massive blow up ball over the line to win a point. We were on our feet to congratulate to well deserves winners.

The 2nd Period was not so much fun when the Panthers bagged two more goals to make it 2-4. But during the 2nd interval there was a best dressed Superhero contest with the cutest and mini-est Superheroes we ever did see, the winner going home with family passes to a Braehead Clan home game.It was tense going into the 3rd Period but quickly it looked like the clan might pull it back with a goal from Craig Peacock. Unfortunately, the hope was short lived as Panthers made it 3-6 for the full-time claxon. Although we were disheartened we still had a job to do and quickly grabbed our buckets and got back out to get some cash collected for Clyde’s CFK. Even with their sad faces people were still generous on their way out and we got lots of cash from the happy (smug) Panthers fans too.We found out on Monday we had raised a total of £1320.04 from the Braehead Clan collection and we were absolutely over the moon. Later we spotted on social media that Clyde CFKs have donated £1,000 to a project in our home town. It is an incredible feeling knowing that if people like us don’t get dressed up and stand with buckets or do a challenge and get sponsored for it projects like this just could not happen. Friday’s collaboration of Wet Wall Works, Braehead Clan and Clyde Cash for Kids is just proof if we all work together we really can make a difference and we hope we have inspired you to do something for Clyde’s Cash for Kids Superhero Day on 4th May 2018. Although we all know Clyde Cash for Kids are the real Superheroes of Glasgow and the West.
